Razak Pirani is an up-and-coming tabla player and student of Maestro Ritesh Das. He joined the Toronto Tabla Ensemble in 2011 and has since then has performed across Canada, in the USA, and in France. He was recently nominated for an Independent Music Award for Best World Traditional Song for Faceoff, a piece he co-composed and recorded with the Toronto Tabla Ensemble. His performance on that recording has been heard on radio stations across the world including CBC and BBC Radio 3. Razak is passionate about passing tabla onto the next generation as a teacher and by helping direct the Toronto Tabla Youth Ensemble.
